CRKVA SV. PANTELEJMONA

CHURCH OF ST. PANTELEIMON

Toranj (by Pakrac), Croatia

The medieval Gothic church not far from the village of Toranj near Pakrac is a monument of Croatian cultural heritage of the highest category.

It is unknown to whom the church was originally dedicated, and today it bears the title of St. Panteleimon which it received in the post-Turkish period. It is an authentic Gothic church that belongs to the buildings of the central type.

Unfortunately, its builder is unknown to us. It is assumed that such a monumental building could be built only by the feudal lords, possibly the Hungarian nobles Tetenji who ruled this area until the arrival of the Turks in the mid-16th century.

Work on the restoration of the church began in 1990 and was completed after the Homeland War.
