The fort was owned by noblemen Befekijevci of Velika, and after the Turks have invaded the area it was turned into a military base. By its layout, the fort differs from all other buildings in this area, and has a elongated pentagonal layout with façade on the North appears monumental, like a ships prove, and its edge positions it well against all the troubles and dangers lurking from the North.
Today, Fort Velika is only partially preserved, but the sight of it still leaves the visitors in amazement, which hikers can also experience as a marked hiking path leads to it.
