DVORAC BARUNA TRENKA

Matije Gupca 2, Pakrac, Hrvatska

BARON TRENK CASTLE

Matije Gupca St. 2, Pakrac, Croatia

One of the most significant historical buildings in Pakrac is the castle of Baron Trenk. It is a baroque square castle with an open inner courtyard – atrium. It was built by the famous military leader Baron Franjo Trenk, who was the owner of the Pakrac manor for a short time.

Although the exact year of construction of the castle in Pakrac is not known, comparing it with the castles of that time and the almost identical castle that Trenk built in Pleternica, it is certain that it is the first half of the 18th century. This spacious one – storey building served as a castle but also as a barracks, first for Trenk ‘s panduri, and later for the military crew who were evicted from the old Pakrac fortress in 1750.

Today, unfortunately, the building has been abandoned, but there are certain plans for renovation and revitalization by the City of Pakrac, which would give a new shine to this old and significant historic building through a new function.
